Sixth Annual Gatumba Massacre Memorial Gathering

In 2010, the Gatumba Survivors Memorial Event was held in St. Louis, Missouri, at Saint Louis University’s Busch Student Center Wool Ballroom, August 14-15. The theme was “Life, Healing and Hope after the Gatumba Massacre.” Events open to the public were held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, and included presentations by many engaging speakers, including Dr. Joseph Sebarenzi, former speaker of the Rwanda Parliament, vocal peace advocate and lecturer at the SIT/Graduate Institute.

Organizations Involved

The 2010 memorial gathering was being spearheaded by a number of different non-profit groups, including the Gatumba Refugees Survivors Foundation, St. Louis University departments of English and Public Policy, Imuhira International, and the Mahoro Association.

Busch Student Center is located at 20 N Grand Blvd, St Louis, MO 63103. The memorial will be on the first floor, in the Wool Ballroom, rooms 170 & 171.

  • FROM I-64 EAST: Take Exit 37B (Grand Blvd). Turn right onto Grand Blvd. Take first left onto LaClede Ave. Park in garage on left.
  • FROM I-64 WEST: Take exit 38A to merge onto Forest Park Ave toward Grand Blvd. Take ramp to Grand Blvd. Turn right onto Grand Blvd. Take first left onto LaClede Ave. Park in garage on left.
  • FROM I-44: Take exit 288 for Louisiana Ave toward Grand Blvd. Take first left onto Lafayette Ave. Turn right onto Grand Blvd. Turn left onto LaClede Ave. Park in garage on left.
  • METROLINK: Exit at Grand Metrolink Stop. Walk north on Grand Blvd for 0.5 miles. Busch Student Center will be on the right after crossing LaClede Ave.
